About Pastor

Pastor P. Devasahayam was born to devout Christian parents and was brought up in the most disciplined way.

During his childhood days, he had great admiration for the saintly people and a burning desire to lead a holy life. But on account of his associations, friends and lack of spiritual guidance, he could not continue leading a life of holiness.

After his schooling, he pursued his higher education in Scott Christian College, Nagercoil. In the initial days of his college life, owing to the very many distractions, he walked in ungodly ways and did not evince a keen interest in studies as well.

One fine day, the most unforgettable and eventful thing happened in his life. On 07-Jul-1965, while doing his second year of UG course, he was forced to attend an evening prayer meeting held in the campus of the hostel. As he could not avoid/refuse the invitation, he took part in that meeting rather reluctantly. ‘That Light’ – the light of the gospel dawned upon him and he could not resist but surrender his life and accept Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.

True is the meaning of the song, ‘Oh happy day, oh happy day when Jesus washed my sins away…’. What a great joy! Being delivered from the clutches of sin, he was transformed into a new person and the Bible verse ‘Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. – ICor 5: 17’ became his experience.

After securing a UG degree, he came to Chennai in pursuit of a job. By divine providence, he came into contact with a pentecostal fellowship at Royapettah where he learned more from the Word of God and from the lives of saints of God. He took water baptism in obedience to God’s commandment.

God started stirring up his heart and showing His purpose in pastor Devasahayam’s life. As the desire for a life of holiness increased, the inner urge to serve God grew more and more each day. As a result, while attending the church fellowship at Adayar he also started getting involved in God’s work by helping other pentecostal church ministries.

By the sheer grace of God he got a job in the Madras Secretariat where he worked temporarily and thereafter the Lord led him in a special manner to join Madras Christian College School. He was married on 17^th May 1973. How rightly does the Word of God say, ‘… and a prudent wife is from the Lord’ (Prov. 19: 14).

He was blessed with a spiritual, obedient and a loving wife who shared all the family burdens and responsibilities with utmost sincerity and care. She was instrumental for the spiritual growth and well-being of the family and was a pillar of support for the faith life of the pastor. God blessed them with a daughter and a son. Both of them are married and are helpful in the ministry.

In obedience to an irresistible call to serve God and the great burden for ministry in the state of Andhra Pradesh, pastor and his wife decided to step out for part-time evangelical ministry. As per His divine plan, God opened a way to start the first ministry at Buchireddypalam in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh on 22-08-1997. And then at South Amalur, Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh.

What started as a prayer fellowship from 22-10-1995 in pastor’s house on Sunday evenings later took the shape of a church fellowship in Chennai. By God’s abundant grace a piece of land was bought at Keelkattalai where the church is now located. The first worship was on 13-08-1999 and now many God’s children gather here to worship the Lord in truth and Spirit.

Mrs. S. Esther Bai, pastor’s beloved wife received her home-call and went to be with the Lord on 17-04-2001. But the Living God who called pastor for His work and entrusted this ministry has been all-sufficient hitherto. Thanks to the Almighty God for having blessed the ministry with very loyal, burden-bearing, dedicated elders and a team of youth workers to do both church ministry and outdoor ministries.

By His abundant grace the Lord has established ministries in various parts of Tamil Nadu (Pappakudi, Pollachi and Pothaturpettai), Andhra Pradesh (Buchireddypalam and South Amalur).

Recently a prayer fellowship has been started at Palghat, Kerala State and in Panvel, Maharashtra.
