Bible Passage: Psalms 139: 23, 24
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
David was considered to be the least in his family, and he was given the least profession by his father yet, God made him a king.
David received the sure mercies of God. He knew that God knows everyone perfectly. Having perfect knowledge about God, David sang this psalm.
He had a perfect knowledge about God as:
- Omniscient God (Ps. 139: 1 - 6)
- Omnipresent God (Ps. 139: 7 - 18)
- Omnipotent God (Ps. 139: 19 - 24)
David also had a revelation about eternity and was always thinking about eternity.
- Psalm 15: 1 & 2
- Psalm 24: 3
Who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
- One who walks uprightly
- One who works righteousness
- One who speaks truth
Though he was a king, he humbled himself before God, confessed and sought God's help after committing a presumptuous sin. (Ps. 51)
David's Prayer
- Search me o God and know my heart
Heart
- Desperately wicked ( Jer. 17: 9)
- Evil thoughts ( Mt. 15: 19)
To depart from these evil things, heart should be filled with the love of God. (Rom. 5: 5). If your heart filled with the love of God, then you will have life and peace. (Rom. 8: 6)
Each and everyday you should crucify your flesh with it's passion and desires. (Gal. 5: 25)
- Try me and know my thoughts
If you have iniquity in your heart your prayers cannot be answered. (Ps. 66: 18)
- See if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.
David had a sound repentance and he also prayed for a clean heart and consistent spirit. Thus he received God's sure mercies.
