Bible Passage: Joshua 24: 15
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
After Moses, Joshua started leading the children of Israel. So, with all loyalty Joshua led the people. Finally during the farewell address Joshua called all tribes, Judges, elders and all the people. Having a determination in his heart, Joshua declared that he and his household will serve the Lord.
What is service?
Service means you have to preach the word of God and you have to make many people disciples of God.
Jesus said, man cannot serve World and God. So identify your calling and decide to serve God.
Hearing the word of Joshua people vowed and confessed that they will also serve God. (Joshua 24: 18, 21 and 24)
Classical examples to follow:
David had only one desire.
Psalm 27:4
1. To behold the beauty of the Lord.
2. To dwell in the house of the Lord.
3. To enquire in His temple.
Jesus Said,
Luke 12: 13
Seek only the kingdom of God. Then all that you need will be provide.
Mary desired for only one thing
Luke 10: 42
Mary wanted to be at the feet of the Lord always. Only one thing is needed and Mary chose that good part.
Paul says,
Philippines 3: 13 & 14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Yes only one thing is needed for us. Desire for heavenly things.
